Sophie Schoeni will attend Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts competing as a student athlete in the NESCAC Conference this fall 2018.
Sophie began her field hockey career in the 2nd grade, where she played for the Wolverines in the Ann Arbor Recreation Department, coached by her Dad and playing with her sister and future PFH teammates. She continued her love of the game while playing at Tappan Middle School. She then came to Pioneer for high school, where she joined her sister, Maddie Schoeni, current field hockey student athlete at Colby College. Sophie has been a four year athlete with the pioneer field hockey program. She is a two time state champion and played in the final four her senior year.
Sophie is described by teammates as a quiet domineering force. “Sophie has an incredible work ethic, focus, and competitive spirit. She’s the type of player who asks for nothing and gives everything to her team and the game.” (Coach, Jane Nixon) Sophie has been instrumental in the success of the Pioneer Field Hockey Program. As a senior, she was center midfielder/defender, primary hitter on attack corners, and one on the primary athletes on the defensive corner unit. She was recognized by her teammates as Most Valuable Player, by the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association as a Division 1- First Team Player 2018, with Honorable Mention in 2017. Her leadership and passion for team, hard work, and the sport will pave the way for future athletes.
Sophie shares the following about being a student athlete, “I have learned how to win, how to lose, how to be a part of a team yet also remain an individual, and most importantly learned to love field hockey and everything it has to offer. I am so sad this time flew by so fast and that I am done playing with my fellow pfhers, but I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to continue playing for the next four years!” Additionally Sophie has been a member of Pinnacle field hockey club. She’s also excelled in the sport of soccer, where she has been on the varsity soccer team at Pioneer since she was a freshman. She been voted as an All District and All Conference athlete her sophomore and junior years.
Sophie has been an outstanding athlete at Pioneer, representing both field hockey and soccer with incredible sportsmanship and pride.
