Athlete Spotlight: Julia Heacock

By Marian High School Reporter, 05/16/18, 1:15PM EDT

Julia Heacock, a senior at Marian High School, has committed to continuing her field hockey career at SUNY Oswego.

Marian Athlete heads to college for field hockey

Introduced to field hockey as a high school freshman, Julia quickly realized she loved the sport and spent many hours working on her skills in her backyard and at indoor clinics and camps. The summer between sophomore and junior year was devoted to attending camps in and out of state, which led to dramatic improvement and a realization on Julia’s part that she may be able to follow her dream of playing at the collegiate level.

Continuing her development on the Marian varsity team, she helped the team win two consecutive Catholic League Championships in 2016-2017. Training with USA Futures (2015-2017), Oakland Yard Athletics during the winter months 2015-2018), the Meijer State Games (2016) and College Connection (2016, 2017), Julia learned from other players and coaches the enjoyment that awaited her if she played the sport she loved in college.

She is thankful for the strong support of her teammates, friends, coaches and other players who have pushed her to become a better athlete each day.

As an honor roll student and member of NHS, Julia has what it takes to succeed academically in her chosen field of accounting, and with her drive and work ethic to succeed as a field hockey player at SUNY Oswego.
